(slams head repeatedly on the desk)
September 27, 2008You know that feeling when you know you've failed? This is it.
So, I went ahead and auditioned for the Northeast Regional Orchestra. I left the university almost in shock. I totally bombed the audition. I even messed up on my solo piece I had been working on for the past month.
I was told to play scales of Ab and Dmaj. I was okay on Ab, but I forgot how to play Dmaj! My mind completely blanked out and I ended up telling him I really didn't know.
Next, I was told to tune a timpani, which I think I did okay. I'm not positive. Then, I had to sight read this crazy piece that was really dumb... and I probably bombed that too. I played eighth notes when I was supposed to be rolling the note and... AUGH!! GAY! I suck at sight reading.
Finally, I was left playing the snare drum. For all the folks at home, I don't play snare. Never played snare. Never will play snare. He told me to do a flam hit... (in my mind, i was constantly saying... "a "what" hit!?" I knew what a flam was, but what the flabberjocks is a flam hit? The guy looked at me as if I've never done percussion before... Then, he told me to roll the snare drum. I know the technique, I've just never really put it into play only because... well... I don't play snare drum!!
Damn. I failed, majorly (Dmajorly...)
