ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) aka Lou Gehrig's Disease is a disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord which in turn affects the muscles throughout the body. There is no cure or treatment and generally people are given 2 to 5 years to live.
Tori has a friend in 4th grade who's dad was diagnosed with this a few months ago. In addition he has many other medical problems. A group of us mothers and our kids will participate in a walk for ALS on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park. I am happy to be a part of this since a few years ago a co-worker of mine died quickly from this disease.
