November 20, 1890: The stronghold plateau was on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Wovoka had his Ghost Dance Vision in 1889, and the prophecy soon caught on and swept across the West. The dance was soon outlawed by the United States government, because they thought the dance would inspire the Sioux to rise up and fight. The people started a journey to Pine Ridge to learn the prophecy and learn the dance throughout early and mid 1890. By November 20, over 3,000 people had made the pilgrimage.
